Stealing is so nerfed for any reason?

Does opening a container in a blue corpse get you guard whacked?
I'd have to check that to be sure, I think its more likely you barely moved the container when you opened it - which if you did move it, that is looting, even if you drop it back in the corpse.

Open a container is "using an item". You will get guard whacked for it. No innocent player needs to "take a peek inside the containers" on a corpse.

Yes I tested it twice, the first time by manually clicking then another time by setting the bag to last item macro. Both times guard whacked me.

But snap, what if a thief wants to find something specific in bag and they're in the guardzone

Yeah I tested it in a dungeon and I went grey opening a container in a corpse.. that does seem a bit silly but not that big of a deal! Leave blue corpses alone, maybe should go grey just opening them, but that sounds a lil trammely.

Then you'll actually have to use the snooping skill when the person is alive. Looking in the pockets of a corpse is grave robbing, not stealing.

You're walking down the street in public and trip over a dead body. ONE shopkeeper takes notice and watches you.
You reach down into the body's backpack and rummage around. Being that your mark is very much dead and likewise, very much public... your snooping ways are of little use to you now. This action is quite deliberate.

You are not a know relative.
You are not a member of the same guild.
You are not both in warring/the same faction.
You are not in a fellowship with prearranged mortality backup plans.

You're just some weirdo with your hands in the pockets of a dead body.

    GUARDS !

Now, out in the middle of nowhere? I think same rules apply... you are seen by one person walking away from a dead body?

Olden times will assume the worst. Stab now, ask questions later. If you are a thief and can't navigate two minutes of this scenario, you should resign from this occupation until you are better learned.

Base RUNUO Numbers look better then the stuff you guys posted....
-Stacks can be stolen in excess of 10 stones even though a 10 stone item, halberd, is unstealable.
GM Thief hardly fails on stacks. 1 out of 30 on this test.

I just did my own test, just of the first 10 attempts at GM stealing from a giant stack of gold, except on UOR:

    1 177gp-------4 stones
    2 197gp-------4 stones
    3 425 gp------9 stones
    4 0gp Failure
    5 131 gp------3 stones
    6 303 gp------7 stones
    7 0gp Failure
    8 1gp----------1 stone
    9 287 gp------6 stones
    10 221 gp----5 stones

Then I gave a heaping stack of mandrake a try:

    1 30------3 stones
    2 12------2 stones
    3 0 Failure
    4 68------7 stones
    5 73------8 stones
    6 12------2 stones
    7 0 Failure
    8 83------9 stones
    9 22------3 stones
    10 20----2 stones

I'll be the first to admit that a sample size of 10 is mostly meaningless. But I think it still gives a good idea what to expect as a thief. I did NOT bother to check whether the thief turned grey or would have been guardwhacked because I am too lazy to mess with that, I just don't care about stealing in town here anymore.

I was using RUO base weights. 425 gold = 9 stone on ren... lol wtf
but reagents weigh the same on uor and base ruo?

Since Publish 58, 150 gold is 1 stone in weighed, so a full stack of 60,000 coins are 400 stone in weighed. Gold coins initially weighed a fiftieth {1/50} of a stone (so fifty coins stacked together weighed a single stone). Gold has no weight when located in a bank box.

It could also go another way. You're caught with your hands in a dead man's pockets, and with no suspects for this murder, you now become the number one suspect and you're charged with murder ;)

With today's forensics, this is a 100% current era accurate statement.
