they already did this on the production shards... and it wasn't such a big problem. obviously I am not saying it should be done in the same fashion el oh el... but the addition of a portable forge didn't break the game.
they already did fire steeds too same blaze neon hue as the beetle. I would rather have the beetle. I think it would be acceptable to have it be a deeded item. you would place it like you would furniture in your house. no axe needed to remove it though. double click it and have a control gump. you would have to stoke the fire with wood. so you must alternate wood chopping with mining to keep it running. this would be one of the penalties for using it is a resource sink to keep it operational. the control gump could include a few basic options like. * packup the forge * add fuel [0/100] where 100 is the max amount of logs loaded in, and yes it burns logs at a decent rate. maybe a "overfuel" option where you can fully load the forge to 100 logs and your next smelt will have a slight bonus to not fail but all logs are lost. [I personally don't like the overfuel idea, but it came to me so I am adding it] if this log fueling option is not sounding good... perhaps the forge could require repairs that only a tinker can do. so if you want to continuously forge on the move then your BS must have tinkering and spend % of the ingots you are pulling in on repairs.
This is a lot of trouble for a portable version of something that can be found practically every 20 feet around every mountain.
totally agree. but it's fun to brainstorm. I don't play crafters anyways. everybody else has one and this IS an mmo.
Nor sure what era it was in, but there was an actual portable forge, looked something like a blazer, Might also have been one that looked like a regular forge. Not sure if you could place them on ground or just had to use them while in your back pack. Personally, I'm not overly fond of beetles, but some people do like them.. I also agree with Alice. Staff made sure there is a abundance of forges about the world. thanks for the thread, interesting one.
