I have spoke with Telamon about organizing a weekly poker night. I am wanting to get a feel for how many people may be interested in this.

So, you might be wondering how in the world this could be possible with no poker tables in game. Well, I have created a poker club on Pokerstars where i can create and customize tournaments. The tournaments will require a password to enter. This will require downloading the Pokerstars program on your computer, and making an account (which does not require any type of payment information). By the way, we will be playing for UO cash money (gold), or maybe even platinum in some cases.

"But Fuji, How in the world will you organize a safe and secure payment / payout system?"

My plan is to collect the buy in money at a bank. When a player gives me the buy in money, i will give them a book and ask them for their Pokerstars username. This book contains the tournament details and password (it is essentially your admission ticket). I need the Pokerstars username so that i can make a list of what usernames will be in the tournament. This is to prevent people from playing for free and winning the money. After you have bought the book and told me your username, you will log onto pokerstars, get into the club lobby using the password you received, and register for the tournament. The winners of the tournament will return to me at the bank on the same character they bought in with, and i will pay them their winnings.

I am thinking we can do this on Sunday nights, however, this is up for discussion.

    ------------------BREAKDOWN-------------------

-Lord British goes to Occlo bank and pays Poker Paymaster 20k (the buy in).
-Poker Paymaster banks the 20k, asks him for his Pokerstars username, and gives Lord British a book with tournament details, instructions, and the password.
-Lord British reads the book, and follows the instructions.
-Lord British logs onto Pokerstars, joins the club, and registers for the tournament.
-Lord British wins the poker tournament and has won 5 million gold.
-Lord British goes to Occlo bank on the same character he bought in with, speaks with the Poker Paymaster, and receives his winnings via a bank check.

Now, I would like to know how many people may be interested in this.

Me, my wife, and my guild mates have tested this out, and it works great, however, i am interested in everyone's tips, advice, and opinions.

If anyone is interested in this, i need to get an idea of how much gold most people are willing to put on the line for these tournaments.

I want to discuss how many places will be paid (winner gets it all? 1st, 2nd, 3rd? 1st and 2nd place?)

If this becomes really popular, we can do it more than just once a week.

    So, What does everyone think?

*whistles between teeth* Woooo, too rich for my blood. But it is a pretty clever idea and probably worth checking out for fans of poker :) Sounds like it could be fun!

im interested though i do not have deep pockets. id definitely like to try. depending on number of players interested it would be fine with me to see winner take all or various amounts to top finishers. im not sure i could make every week depending on time and rl but i think its a interesting idea. my preference would by a more affordable weekly game with a shot at a larger pot for special tourney every so often. monthly? quarterly? yearly? i know it may be a bit far off at this point. my 2cents

Alex please keep in mind that those buy-in amounts are only examples. We can hold tournaments with different buy-in amounts to please everyone.

    I appreciate your thoughts!

Yeah thats not a bad idea. Like you said if enough people are interested it's possible to make qualifier tournaments for bigger tournaments. I am thinking if we had only 10-20 people the top 2 or 3 players get paid. obviously 1st place would get the majority of the money. However if it got even bigger than that, i could make it so the top 20% finishers get paid. or 15%, or 10%.

    I appreciate your input.

A weekly thing, or every two weeks would be pretty neat, with reasonable gold buy-ins. Could have monthly tournaments for higher stakes, like platinum.

You guys are welcome to chill out in my casino for the poker atmosphere!

-Lord British takes winnings and develops shroud of the avatar

-Lord British spams the link to shroud of the avatar at Occlo bank

-Telamon jails Lord British for advertising and reads him the riot act

-Lord British goes to the forums and accuses Telamon of jailing him unfairly

-EA steals LB's game, then he realizes he wants to go back to space, thus ending the saga of Lord British :)

just remember everyone, joining pokerstars is free and us americans can't play for real money anymore until the feds sort everything out. I stopped playing pokerstars years ago when that first happened....but I still have my account. I just can't play hold'em unless it's for real money, or possibly real UO money, lol.

    Great idea Fuj!

I know man, the laws suck! However, it is now legal for New Jersey players to play for money online. I think it will be like this everywhere soon.

Hey Paddy, Do you have any thoughts on how maybe we could have your casino, and my poker night together? How could we do this?

I guess we'd just have to pick a day sometime to do it whenever, and then get varoius people to run different games. I need to do a gorilla fight night as well. I wanted to get that Fast Eddie guy to do some games there too but he's been away as far as i know. I'm sure we can think of something though! The downstairs is public so anyone can hang out there for now. The upstairs just needs a few finishing touches and I can open it up. I need to reinstall my "Rat Roulette" game up there, look it up on the forums if you haven't seen it yet, it's always fun

What you could do, in terms of having both events coincide together, is have public areas in the tower, like the downstairs, for people to hang out, socialize, play low-stakes games and such, and then have a private poker room upstairs somewhere that only the players who are going to play poker can get in.

    Timelord,

Do you have any preferences on the buy-in amounts, or payouts? what places should be paid in these tournaments?

haha, that would be sweet. To enforce this and keep other players out of the room we could "hire" 2 reds to man the door :)

If anyone is interested, we could hold the first tournament tonight at 8pm EST. As long as everyone downloaded pokerstars, and made an account, it would be easy to get everyone in the tournament. I can provide the details to anyone that is interested.

Maybe a friendly 20k buy in?

anyone interested can pm on here.

I have no problems risking in game currency for some pokars. I have no idea how you're gonna get a tables worth of people together at the same time and whether I would be able to attend it at that time, but if you do, I'll play.

Poker is when you get a card and people call out numbers and then someone yells "BINGO" right? Easy peasy.

    EDIT: Can't do tonight sorry!!!

EDIT 2: You may also want to specify which pokerstars site people should go to. If I recall correctly there is a .net and a .com. One is for fake money and the other is real money. Things may have changed... It's been a couple of years...

EDIT 3: Fuck Hala why don't you read the goddamn thread before responding mmmk?
Soooo 20-50k to start to get a feel for how it goes. Low risk means low levels of disappointment. There is only one winner in a poker tourney.
