If you have murder counts, you are suspended from the thieves guild and cannot steal from other players.

When you get a murder count as a thief, how long does it take to be unsuspended? My short term count is gone, but i am still suspended.

I know this rule has always existed.
    not just here either...
but on pay shards as well, correct?

but it never made sense to me...
because it seems like a murderer and criminal type also be more willing to steal as well.
it always seemed so silly to me that a red couldn't have stealing.
if it was possible, I would be very tempted to go down that road.

I think there may be some sort of underlying reason why this is a thing. but then again, maybe not.

^ But I'd love to be a Ninja too. When I was new here, I did cast blade spirits on a boat that I stealthed on and got my first count that way. First, that BS killed myself too and second, you can imagine my regret, when I found out that I couldn't steal anymore for 40hours...

I simply punched someone that i stole from, as an attempt to stun them, and disrupt their reveal spell as an escape. The person then went and killed themselves, knowing i would get a count.

If i were to stun punch someone in the face in real life, and then they commited suicide, i should not be held accountable for their death. Just saying.

You can steal from murderers/criminals/guildmates without becoming a criminal or being in the thieves guild though!

I guess if you are a red and are going to kill whoever you encounter, stealing from them is not necessary since you will have unrestricted access of their corpse anyways.
But it does blow a hole clean in any plan you had to grab their bandages/regs mid-fight.
And it doesn't allow a stealth murder the opportunity to grab and run against an opponent they know they won't be able to best.

I courageously do my best to avoid any repercussions for my actions!

I'm getting old (as most of us are) but I'm 99.6% sure Siege Perilous didn't have this rule when I played there. I distinctly remember having a red mage who I joined the thieves guild with, then dropped stealing so I could use a disguise kit when I wanted to fight anonymously.

As a member of the thieves guild just who do you think you are? Don't forget where you stand, or shall I say... slither in society.

In a crowd, you can remain hidden and meld in to the environment. But, should you be so foolish as to cause or even fail to attempt to cause harm to an innocent civilian, you had best plan to be hunted and dealt with appropriately.

"Oh deary me... constable help! That lowly serf bumped into me. I nearly fell!"

"Nearly fell you say? How terrible!"

"Yes... he... why he punched me, yes punched me!"

"Oh I misheard you, he punched you with force did he?"

"No, I said he tried to stab me and take my noble life! Apprehend that known thief before he kills someone! Alert the harkers so that all my be warned of this armed and dangerous murderer!"

I'll take the penalties that come with a thief. It's that me vs society action that makes me love playing a thief. Those lying uppity nobles will say anything to get their way... and I'll make sure they pay for THEIR crimes.

I think the thieves guild is founded on the idea that stealing from someone is bad enough and if they want to attack you, you have the right to defend yourself. Just outright murder is not accepted in their order.
