Current behavior: Character A attacks Character B by double-clicking him in War-mode from 8 tiles away. Character A enters Peace-mode, having done zero damage to Character B. Character B is killed by a third toon, Character C. Character B is prompted to award murder counts to both Character A and Character C. Expected behavior: Character B is prompted to award murder counts only to characters who inflicted damage upon him.
I have to agree with Vlar here. Just because you didn't land a hit doesn't mean you didn't try. How will this work with reflected/resisted spells ?
Have you actually tested this because murder counts are awarded via a review of the playermobiles damage table for entries that have no expired. You cannot get a murder count for initiating combat, but doing no damage. An example of this is in this patch we had to make a change to a certain spell as it was not resulting in a murder count, but was commonly used in player killing activities.
it happened to me last night on CINNAMON SPARKLE. we had gated to Bucs Den to grab a runebook and a blue followed us through our gate. i held tab and attacked the blue from about 5 tiles away, intending to womp him a couple times. immediately after flagging on him i realized that i hadn't checked my murder counts, so i let go of tab before he reached me. i had magic reflect up, so i know that RA was not an issue. he ran to me and punched me a few times, clearly excited for an opportunity to count me. i checked my counts and realized that i had 4 longs. i went back through the gate to moonglow. i guess my friend (who was on a red at the time) had killed him in bucs after our encounter. i was immediately issued a murder count and turned red in moonglow. after the subsequent guard-whack, i came here to post my findings. this happened 09/10 around 8:45pm. i can test it tonight formally if you really have doubts about what happened. to those who say it's fair: it is neither expected behavior to people who played OSI and understood the system, nor is it in line with the server's policy of starting at an era-accurate base and making informed and intentional improvements.
Be happy that OSI fixed this to the way it is now, because before T2A you would lose Karma for that, even if the person didnt die. From 0 karma and accidently attacking a blue would make you Dastardly... you didn't even need to hit them, let alone kill them.
