We could account it as charitable donation. Give a poor thief some alms and save some taxes. Eternal salvation included.

Lucky drop, lucky steal. And many chances to avoid this happening. I had been visible before, so my presence was known. And the mark (Afbro) didn't back off to a secure distance before recalling. This way I got a clean steal with the mark disappearing and scroll appearing in my bag.

    Result: +250k.

That talk inspired me. But honestly, it was a crazy amount of luck to be at the right time at the right place.

The king of thieves makes his own luck.

May you tread in his footsteps with care. (I'm quite certain the king of thieves also booby trapped his path to success)

I certainly do not know him. And I am most decidedly not him.

I wish you luck in your search

Paying attention to all information sources can be profitable.

Very interesting! I stopped immediately with whatever honorable business I was doing at the moment and headed to T2A (excluding the felucian champs for now).
First try: Kos Heb Champ Spawn (geographically very tamer friendly). I was greeted by two lonely dragons. Very promising!

After some more scouting I found myself in the middle of a very heated fight. I saw dragons with bad breath and their associated pets (tamers), as well as metrosexual looking, lute swinging musicians creating some dance music for the undead minions. I decided to resist the urge to join the dance floor too early and tried to keep a safe distance to the beasts and beats.

Finally poor Neira appeared and was directly gang-banged. The show was disgusting and at the same time appealing. Even special guest stars like Ebola couldn't resist to join the "fun".

I reminded myself that so far I didn't get anything and that my bags were quite empty and that I was here to fill them. So, after the show was over, I stuffed them full with roughly 10k GP that lay around (Neira's payment for her participation in this group thingy?). I took an open gate, banked the 10k in the midst of at least 5 thief-hating players (puh, good thing I had the disguise active) and went back through the gate.

Why I re-entered the champ zone you ask? First, I had remembered a wildlife documentation where lions were praying on the weak and the ones that get seperated. Second, my experience told me before that I couldn't hope to get away stealing from someone with a dozen dragons and many unengaged bards around me. Combining this two bits, I waited until most of the group had gated back. There certainly would be someone hanging behind, weak and unprepared.

And yes, this was the case. ValoriVinyl and somebody else I don't remember were looting the last regs from the ground, all others were back in Papua and Delucia. Snoop ValorVinyl --> 6 very shiny plats --> Target steal --> FAIL!

FAIL? 6 plats? That must be one stone in total - how can a GM thief fail at that (possibly a bug?). I certainly didn't give up and waited for 10 secs. At 8 sec ValoriVinyl reacted and ran. Too late or the wrong direction, unimportant, I had my second chance and... SUCCESS. I ran like hell into the direction of the spawn monsters. What followed was a dance in which by now I am quite experienced in: invis scroll, stealth, revealed, hide several times, revealed several times, teleport into lich lords and rotten corpses, hide, and finally get away as Valori was attacked by them.

    Result: ~10k + 6 plats.

I think, I did the christmas event unjustice. There are some feasable options for thieves. Apart from stealing scrolls (two so far), I pursued my goal to enter an instanced christmas dungeon again.

This adventure starts with a gate:

I found myself in a very empty fortress with nightmares, dragons and their pets (tamers) in it. Curious what they will do I waited in the shadows... and got revealed. But somehow, I wasn't recognized as somebody unwanted (too clever disguise as a healer? paying no attention?).

A "pirate ship" moongate popped up, I entered it with the others and found myself in Santa's Lair.

Again I witnessed the bloody work of killing elves and reindeer going on and positioned myself to warn "Bad" Santa as early as possible

After warning him of intruders, I admired his very stylish outfit and long white beard and told him that I will include his style in my disguise kit fashion set.

Still, poor Santa died fast. But his loyal battle pet "BooBear" gave the intruders hell and avenged him properly - until he had to give in and lay low himself.

Well, seeing that gruesome slaughtering going on, I decided to establish an aid fund for Santa's and BooBear's surviving members of the family. I think, the 40 holiday coins I found in his belongings are a good starting point (PM me for further donations). I will manage them wisely and only charge minimal costs for that service. *crosses fingers*

I'm glad you are having fun with thieves. Telamon, the server in general, the math they put on the thief skill here that makes it worthless, and a giant ETC have made me give up on the class almost all together. I really hate that the thief class here is poo'd on worse than any other class in the game as typical in UO, because it's the most fun to play. If they'd put half of the effort into fixing stealing and the class in general and make it powerful like in the real UO era, then I think I'd' refind my love of the game again.

Wow great story. Even though Santa was eventually slain, it was nice of you to try to warn him.

Ya know, there is something to be said about thieves who can remain in our hearts despite their frowned upon profession by using great story telling.
