UO:Renaissance - Thieving perfected (ongoing thread)

active today.
no progress pic but solo disarm steal on a +20 vanq SS off opposing factioner while being chased 3v1. no hiding or healing skill just magery/resist to survive.

Noticed a decent golden runic double axe equipped on a player in Skara. Proceeded to follow their group through a gate (luckily out of town) where I immediately attacked the mark but failed to disarm!

Luckily, they all decided to give chase...

After a few attempts, finally nabbed the axe and bolted!

Thought I was safe multiple times, but I seemingly picked the wrong group because they had Tracker with them...

At one point, they had me like a sitting duck w/ a Paralyze and synced up Explo Re-Para, but I managed to escape poisoned w/ a few hit points left.

After that close call, I knew it was time to GTFO.

So, I ran deep in the woods and waited the dreaded 10 minutes before being teleported back to the safety of Minoc.

Entered the 1v1 ANYTHING GOES PvP tourney on my disarm thief hoping to find some decent weapons and got matched up against this beauty!

I feel like it was made for me or something.

If you post this in top shots with a screenshot/transcript of IRC immediately afterwards - you'll win.

Then as well as having a million GP+ weapon stolen from Fatty Mike, you'll also have a trophy congratulating you on your magnificent win.

Yes, disarm should be allowed but you should not be able to keep it. Players don't consume regs or certain pots in these events and there is no way to loot another player so no loot should be attainable. The rules for the tournament can allow you to disarm and steal for that match but not to keep.

I aint worried about it @Telamon will end up correcting it. So enjoy for the time being. Honestly I loved the concept and think it was a cool way for a player to think outside of the box. Hell of a way to basically nerf any pvp player. Kudos @SativaGreen on being original and using a exploit to your advantage.

If it's truly an exploit, then he should fix/clarify rulesets for this style tournement. However, I was under the impression this was a Felucca style, anything goes, style matchup, so I stayed logged into my faction disarm thief.

Whether the player keeps it should be clarified before hand. It's not loot, it's dedicated player skill points built into a template. Not like I killed him and took it off his corpse.

Like I said @Telamon will make it right whether that is allowing you to keep the axe and fixing the exploit or returning it to me or giving me a new Val Runic Axe either way. It doesn't matter. I applaud the fact you found a loophole and I won't be requesting anymore 1 vs 1s anytime soon.(I was the person that brought up the PvP to telamon last night) So if anyone is upset that there isn't a PvP event anytime soon we know where it came from.

I am interested to see what Telamon does.

To me, if he interacts with this individual scenario, other than fixing/clarifying the PvP Anything Goes ruleset, that would feel like staff interference.

And if he doesn't give you the axe, I'll still sell it to you for 700k, so just let me know.

I believe it is...because it takes place in a trammel instance. Players are not given standard flag options. They are under a special rule set.

Was there a rule against stealing in general at the event? If the idea of no loot is players can bring their best gear and fight with it then it makes sense it shouldn’t be able to be stolen and kept indefinitely. Stolen and kept for the rest of a fight is acceptable as that’s just the strategy of that fighter template.

I think if it’s not clarified then I don’t see anyone bringing weapons like this to these events. I won’t. In which case you might as well say looting is acceptable for the event.

I am not sure I would agree with this. I have no idea how events are played in general here, but I would not participate in such an event knowing that there will be thiefs allowed, especially if its the case that I am not allowing to loot them after. Thats like trammel but with stealing allowed - to me it sounds more like an exploit.

Don't start trying to add rules in after the fact now, play it as it lies good citizen.

That said, it should be taken as a lesson on adjustments to mechanics. Storing of the character states prior to and restoration of afterward would be apt. A wee little list should do the trick, doesn't even need DB interaction.

Until a crash during when someone is winning.. but then they're not.. didn't get such treatment back in the day when Mum picked up the phone during a 1v1 final that had already lasted 30min

My 2nd place awarded me a replacement suit of armour + 5k... damn Mother.
