straw man spoiler: I tried to solo a champion spawn I got pk'd by a group and was unable to participate This made me feel dejected and otherwise morose Argument: change the champion system so I may participate Reason: fairness
I'm glad that you stated in the beginning that you were giving a strawman argument because that's not at all comparable. So far, a majority of the criticisms I have received come down to: Falsely representing my premise Telling me this is UO and how it always will be this way so cry more emo tears Trolling Look, If this is the system that most people here want, good for them. Why should I continue playing here if a big part of why I enjoy the game is, in my opinion, contrary to random opportunities?
I have a very simple solution... whenever a house goes idoc, everyone who goes there gets a scroll. The scroll opens a Trammel instance with an exact copy of the idoc house and everything in it. This way everybody gets to have the idoc and nobody has to feel bad.
lol, yes, the perfect feeling saver. Good call bro! You know on OSI they actually added some 'grubber' mobs that would spawn and bag a bunch of the loot that drops so players had to fight them to get the goods. lololollololol
Or we can randomize IDOC. No need to be so ridiculous. I stopped playing when they introduced Trammel, actually.
You keep saying shit like that and I honestly think you are just looking at everything through shit-stained glasses.
It seems you think a lot of negative things about me. Shrugs. You asked why I'm still here? Because I'm not going to run from you, that's why. I understand you think I'm just a crying baby so it must stink that I'm still here to defend my points.
I would absolutely prefer you stay and fight for what you like. I'm overly apathetic to people claiming to "quit" then carrying on about things they want changed. Want things changed? Stick around, play the game however you want to play and continue to campaign for what you like. I may not support your ideas just like many people don't support mine. I don't lose sleep over it and I don't think you will either. Point being, I welcome all players to the shard and don't like anyone quitting but won't sit around and dry your tears and console you if you're quitting and complaining on your way out the door.
Every game I know changes mechanics once someone finds a way to milk it endless, even if it's not infringing any rules and it's done honestly. It's a simple matter of maintaning balance and avoiding people losing interest on the game because of that. To be honest, I think it's really fair. Most people will continue to enjoy the game and try new things to find new ways to succeed while at the same time people that weren't able to figure it out won't feel neglected by the developers, as if they were given another chance to have success in said things or others. I get that this server is from Renaissance era and we try to maintain things as they were. But it's like discussing who is the GOAT: Tom Brady or Joe Montana? It's hard to say, because they've played in different eras, with different rules and all of that. We've discussed how the timers for short and long counts should be changed based on that. People used to play on dial up, so 8 hours would make sense given that login time was limited. This is far from being correct by now. And I think it all comes to this. I don't think randomizing IDOC timing and adding AFK gumps to house signs would change drastically the game. It would, however, put a break into an established system that's well known for milking the resources from a mechanic of the game. They would need to readapt and people that are not part of it would have a chance to work and benefit of it too. For God's sake, IDOC, stealing, short counts and a bunch of things that are or broken or being milked non-stop are subjects of threads every single day. It's not like it's a huge shard and only a percentage of people know about that. This is a server where basically everyone knows each other and knows all about everything. Sometimes it looks like just stubbornness or something avoiding progress and balance to the game and new players. I'm one that, beside other reasons, is not playing anymore because I have other options to have fun playing games and unfortunately I don't feel the enjoyment anymore to invest time and effort to play against a well stablished and small base of players that are having the time of their lives for years because they found ways - and props to them again - within the rules to milk resources infinitely and are dominant on the server. It looks like the server are some people's playground and due to the fact that we are soooo held to an era of the game to the point we can't make simple changes to try and balance the shard, we'll be forever seeing new and regular players come and go because they simply can't stand to the fact that they need to put huge efforts on developing systems to workaround all milking in place right now dominated by veterans who play since the beginning of the server. This sounds just plain boring. Sure, we can continue to respond all these complainings with "get better", "find a group and don't be outnumbered" - like it's so easy to find 10 trustable people to play a 20 year old game with you everyday. Sometimes it's hard to find 5 god damn friends to play a map of CS:GO. I just don't see it is as the best way, sorry.
I just want to say briefly, thank you for putting in the time and having the motivation for such a well-thought-out statement.
The heck? Did you just claim the moral high ground... again? You realize the past 6 pages are still visible, right?
