Old School MIDI Files

Hello, UOR Forums,

I'm just gauging interest from you guys: How many would be interested in an MP3 pack that imitates the old MIDI sound and isn't full of crappy remastered sounding tracks? If enough people are up for it I'll post a download link; installation should be a simple copy and paste -- back up the current ones if you might want to revert. Let me know, poll will run for two weeks just to see.


EDIT: If there's overwhelming interest I'll go ahead and upload it for you guys.


EDIT2: Here's a link to the download for my music pack. It contains tracks that are almost identical to the same tracks during the actual Renaissance expansion era. To install this, simply extract the MP3s to the "Ultima Online/music" folder and replace all when asked. Make sure you make back ups in case you don't like it.

The MP3s in "Ultima Online/music" are the only ones that have to be replaced. The replacement files are also MP3s so they should work the same, they just sound like the originals.

One - I think there are specifically worded midi files named like "combat" or throne room, etc. but that's just from memory. I know back in the day on an old free shard I played, I knew someone who replaced his combat music with that "Badger song".. you know, the one from back in the day when everyone was obsessed with making crazy flash videos of stupid crap lol. I think all you'd need to do is rename them to that name you want to replace... but that's just my guess, I don't know how it is these days.

Exactly what I don't want. The remastered sound they have to them is not at all close to original.

Its hard to find a good MIDI converter these days, as silly as that sounds. You can get close, but they're never quite right from my experience.

I always preferred the adlib music for U6. It seemed more fleshed out I think.

Here's the original Client Installs if people want to use/convert them. I prefer the T2A music, myself.

There is a lot of truth to that...

BUT the "convert to midi" algorithms in Ableton Live 9 these days are pretty damn solid. It even comes with 3 options, convert harmonies, convert melodies, convert drums.

As you said, it's NEVER perfect... but it does a damn good job of getting close, and you can correct the rest with just a little effort.

I own the software and if there is any particular piece anyone wants transposed I'd be happy to help.

It just makes me sad that there really isn't any true way to convert a pure .MIDI accurately to .mp3. Everything now is pretty much an approximation.

That having been said, listening to the .MIDI's converted to the current file format is pure nostalgia and it doesn't seem to get old for me regardless of the inaccuracies.
