I farmed my first couple mil on my lumberjack and never once complained about it, so why is this not something you're willing to do? You can even blade spirit executioners or ogre lords and make tons of cash. Do you just not want to put in the time? People make millions here simply fishing, but since YOUR preferred template doesn't make as much as you think it should there's a problem? I'm sorry friend but you're simply not trying at this point.
I've always considered pvm to be for tamers and bards, and pvp for warriors and mages. All the years I've played uo that's just the way it was. As for crafting, I never did the bod thing and I used my crafter to make/repair whatever I needed. By your logic we should be able to be a cook and make gold selling cakes and shit, or a detective that goes around solving murders for gold(forensic id). There are many ways to play uo and they aren't all equal and shouldn't be. I made my first million gold on my bard naked in a dungeon. So you don't have to have a tamer to make gold.
Did you farm your next 20 mil on 3x LJs running on the same screen? I farmed practically everything in the early days on my fencer and my bard. I eventually made a tamer and put in some hours here and there but mostly with friends as I find it extremely boring. This has little to do with template and everything to do with the destruction of the game through multi-account excesses. Hence the thread title. For what it's worth, I definitely feel that one faction per IP should absolutely be implemented. One Factioner is obviously not going to happen, much like one tamer, one tailor/smith, etc. The cat's out of the bag and it already shit on the table.
when one makes astronomical number of golds within the same time frame via triple boxing, it destroys the economy, it devalues the gold because supply for gold becomes inefficiently distributed, certain commodities' prices end up skyrocketing, and same people end up with more, later on these forums turn into pvp zone between tamers vs others. There's no way you can compete with them since items become really expensive for those who play the way you said it. A blessed sandal sells for 10m in this server lol. Just look at the dungeons, can't see anything thanks to extreme abundance of dragons in UOR. It's all I have to say at this point. But I see what you are saying as well..and somewhat agree with both sides. So, we have been saying the same things over and over; what is the solution? Ahirman, yes by my logic, you should be able to make at least tiny bit of money, and that way unused skills can have some use in the game, in other words more alternative ways to play the game can make the server even better. Would it be bad to solve murder cases ? Make a lot less money than a tamer with a simple cook? I don't understand why people are against these things? Why not enrich the game rather than going ocd on "era accuracy"? Maybe I am too used to custom spheres of old days but I have seen them becoming even better with added mini games or meanings. Here, if big majority is so into accuracy, how come we have 3 accounts per IP ? If server was limited to 1 account per IP, what's going to happen to bunch of people who spent long time working on having 3 tamers? Either way I think this is becoming a paradox.
Taming is absolutely not required for end game. I made millions and.millions in the first year I was here never using a tamer nor having one. Vella is the exception not the rule and I just say hot damn good job. I think it really needs to be kept in mind this is one specific type of spawn that this loot range is coming from. It is absurd to want to make it 1 account to use for everyone and completely unrealistic. This is not the early days of UO. Cant beat em, join em if you don't like it so much. Everyone is on the same playing field. There is nothing that is "ruined". But lets just keep on mammering on and on and on and on. What about when this nerf would come into place. The "imbalance" that is proposed would still be there as those that made millions upon millions will still have those millions. I am filthy rich and I never triple box.
I'm happy to embrace the "noob" designation in this particular case. All I did was ask for an explanation of the numbers and state up front my suspicion based on the effort that would be required. You clarified that this feat of carpal tunnel syndrome-inducing clicking is possible by working 3 separate mephitis spawns at once. Sounds awful, but as I said before, all the more power to you if you're actually doing this.
The problem with this is you don't have to make 3 tamers, the game is what you make it. Either you CHOOSE to take part in triple boxing or don't, is this about destruction or equality at this point?
Well I'd rather keep an eye on Shroud of the Avatar rather than beating a dead & ancient horse here but thanks for the advice. Awesome, thanks for letting me know Kane, honestly didn't know this. I am glad never been part of it then; especially looking at what it has become ^_^ Now I can see how some of the things went down the hill with the official game heh; considering - " pay more to have more accounts to have more gold" mentality by the company and how it affected the community, game dynamics I thought I was familiar with, and game's brand image. My question is; was it always that way from the very beginning? I have never played with multiple accounts before, and it was a reason to get perma banned. I have played, beta tested far too many mmos to keep dreading one particular issue in some random uo shard, that's why I tried to give a general aspect of why certain things don't work out in such game settings; there are so many examples of "triple box or die" or "do X or die" type of rationality in games that push some of the players away in the market then fail. Here in UOR, a lot of people probably see it as if it doesn't matter if others made so much money and became filthy rich in UO, I am assuming for many; the point is "majority can never be as rich as tamers even if they tried, so this one extrema points out to further discrepancies in the server, making one segment of people lack the motivation to keep playing since they feel isolated in some respects" . Maybe that's why we have a 7 pages long topic as well as others that center around the same issue. Honestly this is the first time I have seen it this way in UO. That's why I was trying to figure out a solution rather than pushing my reasoning onto others unlike majority here. Other servers I played focused on fun elements and community building but here shard is focused on one specific era, that's why previously I stated I agree with both sides instead of ignoring majority of what people had to write on the forums or nitpick one single sentence in order to justify my reasoning.
You could pay for extra accounts on OSI sure, but I don't think they intended for you to log on them simultaneously. As far as I know you needed Easy-UO or some kind of special assistance to connect this way.
Playing on two accounts at the same time in OSI was a bannable offense and you most definitely needed a 3rd party application to even make it work. I'm also pretty positive that you could not have two accounts using the same credit card information, but I'm a little fuzzy on that one and could be off. I vaguely remember running into that issue when my family had two accounts we shared(my father and both my brothers also played). Era accuracy, era accuracy, era accuracy!!! Oh wait....triple boxing isn't era accurate....neither is razor. So what do you want? Do you want era accurate or do you just want the aspects of era accuracy that appeal to you? That's the philosophy I see most people here apply...if it appeals to their play style/philosophy then it's ok....
the worst thing this server did was vote on 3 accounts, and people didnt even figure out triple boxing by then lol.... RETARDS.
Cook, Detectives, that sounds pretty cool actually. Variety is inherently fun, that's why I don't eat pepperoni pizza every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner even though it is my favorite food. People can sit here and say everyone should make tamers and stun mages and call it a day... They can say that they farmed their first million on a single naked beggar in buccaneers den and that if you don't do that then you're lazy... But at the end of the day it's not about that. It's just about there being no variety. It's not about laziness. It's not even about who are the richest players and how can we make them poor. It's not about nerfing tamers either. It's that lots of players have different needs and ideas and find different play styles fun, and those different players should have lots of fun on their particular play style and they should find what they're doing to be rewarding, competitive, and cooperative within the game. Why is this important? Because variety is inherently fun therefore the game will simply become more fun and more people will want to play it with us. I'm not saying we need cooks and detectives (but I wish we did just a little), but now it's like some kind of sick joke. I look around everyone's on a tamer. Other servers I played weren't like this. "Play X or die" is just crap game design. This isn't Nethack or some game where it's fun to play a weaker character. This is an MMORPG. People are "competing" against each other (lol) and so they most often choose to be as efficient as possible. Only RPers play inefficiently for fun. Everyone else plays tamers. Players who play inefficient builds know they are inefficient but still decide to play it because they enjoy playing that way, but the more inefficient said build is, the fewer players will make the decision to play it. In a perfect world, where Richard Garriot ended up owning EA, every Ultima Online skill would have a good use and would be useful all the way to the end game and PVP. And the world would be a healthy and even mix of every template. (Now It's like eating a cheap jar of mixed nuts and tamers are the peanuts)
Honestly, I don't really play UO much anymore and the reasons why are mostly summed up in your comment(that and the ridiculously childish and narcissistic attitudes of a lot of people who PvP here.). There is no variety here. My rose tinted glow of nostalgia lasted a little while and then I came to the realization that most people on this shard are essentially clones of everyone else. Sure the clothes and hair might be slightly different but there is no variety. Even suggest anything that does not conform to the common templates/ideas and you get chased out of town real fast here. It's still the best free-shard out there in my opinion but for me there is nothing really compelling me to stick around. Besides, The Witcher III takes a lot of my gaming time up right now and I've been getting the itch to play Dota again after playing HoTS a bunch. Take it easy all and try not to get too salty about my PvP comment.
retards? People have been triple boxing LOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGG before this server ever was created and three accounts were allowed with the complete knowledge that people will use 3 accounts at the same time.......
This is somewhat how I feel, that's why I decided to take a break, then realized I should only be focusing on RP and will try to organize events for the server with help of other VoP members. In other words I tried to look at the situation here differently, maybe tried to ignore it. Then I figured I really care about immersion while I'm playing. So I chose to stick to certain areas where I can have entertaining player interaction. I just ask people to look at few screenshots from this RP topic, and tell me how one person can be immersed like this; http://uorforum.com/threads/christmas-in-august.11922/#post-104225 And this is the very last thing I will be typing about this topic: Here's a quote from UOR's homepage: "...this recreation aims to perfect what we all loved about Ultima Online before its decline. A highly immersive game with seemingly limitless possibilities ..."
Yeah listen to Eladrin's last post. The role-playing community on this shard is beyond god like, and I think the best way to enjoy this game. It is a roleplaying game after all (like 80% of the skills and items in UO are primarily there only for role playing purposes. cake. bees wax. bed rolls). Minmaxing always results in ridiculous outcomes. I haven't role played since I was 12, but I've been loving it. It's the only way to enjoy the full game I think. And if Garriot was playing this server, he would be all up in Paws RPING.
To answer your question: "tell me how one person can be immersed like this?" Organize your own events, RP or not, and make up a reason tames cannot be used. Power of the sandbox, in your hands. Other people do this, me included. http://uorforum.com/threads/summer-pirate-bash.11816/#post-103367 <- Warrior only day, mage only day. http://uorforum.com/threads/last-man-standing-on-saturday-15-08-7-pm-est-1-am-cet.11769/#post-103396 <----- No pets allowed http://uorforum.com/threads/hardmode-hunt-4-two-parter.11700/#post-102277 <------ Gather tames as you go http://uorforum.com/threads/kezas-tamer-quest-6-26.10726/ <-------- no pets allowed These are all super recent examples as well.
