I assumed that a lot of them would be AFK accounts - as is on par with other servers. I dig the setup of the server for sure. I am currently macroing a couple characters and found my old melee/provo character so that gives me a little headstart on getting money and stuff. I guess I just really have to get out there to see what it's like and make a decision.
Joining one of the bigger guild certainly helps here when you want to play with others. The local thieving guild, 5D, also welcomes any aspiring business man and woman.
This shard offers an incentive to stay logged in for 500 hours (if memory serves me) per month, per account. Because of this, you will find the online count to be much higher than the activity count. All shards obviously have AFK players, but on UOR you'll have people who are purely AFK and not even macroing skills, whereas on other shards people's incentive to stay logged in dwindle as they finish their characters and become filthy rich. There's nothing wrong with this, it's the way it is, you'll either get use to it or complain about it forever
Hey Coffee and welcome (back) to UOR!!! Also another thing to keep in mind (and I am simply judging this by the time of your forum post) but the peak hours for this server are more than likely evening hours EST probably like 5pm-8pm or something as such. Your post was late AM and I would think that is not a peak time for sure! Good luck getting established!
Hi and welcome to the server. That is one aspect of the good old days, I do miss, is folks hanging around banks. Not a lot of that now a days. With irc, various voice chats, in game guild and party chats players don't depend on meeting at banks to go as a group someplace. They just decide where to go via the chat systems and met there. But, besides this one draw back, ha ha, this is a great server, fantastic player community, great staff, I'm sure once you get settled in, you will have grand times here. Yeah this is the best server I've been to. The community really is great. There are a lot of events, helpful people, places to drop a house, some pks but not tooooo many. Welcome back!
To get a more realistic idea of how many people are actually out running around I just divide the number online by 3, then to account for those macroing in their houses or crafting I divide that number by 2 so 547divided by 3 is 182 rounding down, then 182 divided by 2 is 91. So 91 people actually running around in such a large place might give one the impression no one is playing. Want to find people, hang out in front of Occlo bank or in a dungeon like Destard or Shame Blood Elementals and you'll bump into someone, guaranteed.
i wish that the login message showed a metric for unique IPs connected, but i have a feeling that this will never happen.
There will always be disbelievers with the population and players online/unique IPs is easily faked from an administrative side (I'm not saying Chris does this), so you will still have people who call shenanigans with no evidence or proof. However, I think it would be good to actually be able to see this from my own viewpoint
I know this is an old thread but I just took about a year off - work got pretty stressful and the wife got .. well I'd complain but nobody listens ;-) (or cares) lol but since I've been back now, which has only really been a few days.. I've noticed I run in to hunters and/or reds almost anywhere / any time I go hunting now. So if any newer players still aren't finding people, get out and about and you will! It seems like the PK's have gone down in numbers too or maybe it's just there's more hunters like myself out there that they are busier than used to be so I don't see them as much. Also, I don't believe there's any events running right now either.. which only leaves hunting or instances. But most of those you have to hunt to get or pick chests - some sort of dungeon crawling.
Yea I was doing some lp training the other day, I saw pks in one spot, and people in 3 or 4 of the major spawns.
Maybe it was your gate I saw earlier in Destard! Someone came in, picked the chest and left through the same gate! Never saw who it was. A few minutes before that a guy in my guild ran by, I guess looking for a farming spot. Typically when I sit down to play there are 1-2 things already going on in one of the groups I roll with. And Then there are the countless activities that I miss while working/sleeping
That's my MO. Last I did this was last week sometime. It's pretty fun sneaking around, I like to pop out when people are farming.
