Hey guys, like the title says i'm new and have some questions. I have not played this game before so i'm not sure where to start, my interest got peaked when reading some game forums and seeing this game as one of the best ever made. I have been browsing google for well over an hour at this point and there is just so much content im feeling a little confused on how to get started. At this point I decided to start by atleast picking where to play, I have chosen to play here because it had the most players on the JoinUO server list. This is where I am looking to hopefully relax a bit and get some help now. I was wondering what I need from here, as of right now I have no game installed or servers or whatever I may need. If this information is kicking around somewhere i'm sorry but like I said I just need a break from reading about this stuff haha. Any help to get me playing would be the bees knees and hopefully I can try this game tomorrow. I will read any replies tomorrow as right now my eyes are closing (3:44am). G'night!
Welcome aboard! Gideon created a top-notch guide for new players. It covers how to download the client and how to get going: http://uorforum.com/threads/new-to-ultima-online-start-here.3182/
Welcome! Although I'm still fairly new to the server, I have played UO in some form or fashion for decades. Once you get installed, get an IRC client installed so that you can chat with everyone. Once there, join the channel #PS it's the guild Project Sanctuary. I'm currently in the guild and it is awesome. We've already had more coordinated hunts in two weeks than months of other games played. Hope to see you in game. Knoc
DudeMcstabbs, Welcome to the best game ever made, my new friend. So much to do and learn about this, as this is not by any means an "easy mode" MMO. Its hard core, its old school, its open ended. With that being said, let me introduce my self. HI! I'm Krake. I run the new players guild here on UO:R, called Project Sanctuary. I would suggest a few things for someone like who, who has never played this game. 1. Go on youtube and just look at how the game is played. DONT look at anything official from the companies EA or OSI. I am sure one of our players here could link you some footage of our server (@Halabinder , @Keza). 2. Read that forum thread done by Gideon that Basoosh posted. Its great. 3. Jump on our IRC channel and talk to us! IRC is easy. Head to the main UO:R page, click on the IRC link in the left margin, enter a name, and you are in. You dont need to download anything, and its a text program, so no mics. Come over to the #PS channel and talk with Me or @mikek85, or really anyone else in the main channel. The download for the game is very small, and pretty fast, so at the very least you could download the game (with UOAM ((UO AutoMap) it comes with the download) and you could just make a random character and get in the world and run around and figure out some mechanics before you made your *actual* character to start working on. This game, for the most part, relies heavily on the program Razor, and there is a learning curve to that, as you will need a working knowledge of that program in order to most effectively use and manage your time in terms of raising skills. Unless you wanna go the pure naturalist way, in that case @Blaise can help you on that path. I recommend using Razor for a first time player. Lots of people to help teach you that. In this game there are no "quests" like modern MMOs. Its as much a fantasy sim as it is an MMO, so you really get to craft what kind of playstyle you want, whether that being killing monsters around the world, fighting other players, crafting any multitude of items to use or sell or start a business, tracking theives or player killers for bounties, role playing in a guild or by yourself, fishing for treasure, following maps for treasure, dungeon crawling for.........treasure, or a ton of other things. So ya, I hope to see you in IRC, or more on the forums here, or in game! Let us know what we can to to help! Cheers. ~Krake
Welcome home! This is by far the best UO free shard out there hands down! I would also suggest opening up the IRC chatroom. This is a quick way to get to know some players and have your questions answered quickly!
Piece of advice, do not let your first character be an archer. Archery is expensive, or you will have to make a lumberjack/fletcher to supply yourself with arrows/bolts, making your first experience a hard time
