"Play with other players?" -Well Stated Comment Lets see,... NPC hirelings used to follow and guard from what I remember of the old UO. Whether this was Renaissance era accurate I am not so sure. I think that on some level that this does still work here while escorting an NPC. Also, factions can hire a variety of different types of NPCs for silver. That being said, I do not think that any further implementation of NPC hirelings needs to be done to maintain the level of fun we all have here. If I want someone to bang coconuts behind me while I travel the lands of Britannia, I'll hire a real person to do so, or promise him/her a cut of our adventures together. Furthermore, I do think that adding that detailed aspect of player detail to the Anatomy skill would be useful, if not a better way to make our world more interactive. Little changes like this seem to have the most positive feedback because they do not affect the general game play from what is generally praised.
I would play with others but my odd play times and the fact I prefer to grind out the lesser mobs(orcs, lizardmen, brigands) limits me on options of finding people to hunt with... The real reason behind the idea was I was getting tired of hunting with a daemon, and though why not hire a damn fighter that I could also heal and put to use some of my other skills...
There %100 should be more paladins around as well as the mages in Wind, for hire. That's a long time standard of UO that I recall. Nothing OP about them, but could be if we allow training them and equipping them wtih better items. Faction NPCs do not function outside of the towns controlled by the faction that hired them. They do not attack on command either. They follow and patrol areas and only attack enemy factioners.
