Ok so i started on this server about a week ago and so far really like it! But I have a few questions lol. So ATM my template plan is as follows GM Skills: Anatomy, Healing, Tactics, Resist Spells, Poisoning, and Fencing. Then i was going to split magery/parry 35/65 for recall (I thought i read somewhere on the forums that its 100% success useing scrolls at 35?) but i cant find where i read it at lol. So i guess my fist question is what are the requirements for recall and is 35 magery skill enough for it to be viable? And i have been contemplating dropping parry and GMing magery but it turns out you cant poison spears so...is it viable to fence with poisoned one handers without a shield? or should i switch to swords and use a hally if im going to drop parry? Oh and one more lol how does the young status work as in like if i GM a skill does it end? or is it just if the time runs out? Thanks in advance, Castric
Welcome to UO Renaissance Castric. I will leave the template questions to the players as they can give you better information than I ca, The young program allows you to spend 500 hours per account learning the game. There are no skill limitations. As long as you stay on Ocllo island and the new player dungeons you will remain young. Once you leave the island it will also remove the young status.
Hi Castric, your template will work for a starter character but probably plan to GM parry and split magery/poisoning for now. Unless your also starting up with trade skills mule, the lack of alchemy will force you to buy lots of poison kegs/pots to GM poisoning. You can always drop parry and raise poisoning once the money comes around later. Hope to see you around in-game!
Hey Castric welcome to UOR! I am unsure of the exact level of magery to never fizzle recall with a scroll. I want to say its around 50 to never fizzle. However I have a provo dexxer myself with only store bought magery (around 35) and he never really fizzles much on recall scrolls. So I can say that if you keep 35 magery you won't have much issue using recall scrolls. As it is your first character perhaps you may want to wait on poisoning. I don't have any poisoners so not my area of expertise though I know poisoning comes with some mixed reviews. I suggest maybe waiting on poisoning simply from the cost aspect. I don't believe you can poison Halberds either so keep that in mind if you are thinking of switching to swords. Parrying is great to have for fighting monsters as you will use less bandages and thus use less money while your farming which is great for your first character and of course the more damage you absorb the tougher monsters you can fight. If you want to keep poisoning though I would say that your template looks pretty good. The biggest thing with the poisoning is are you looking to fight other players more with this character or do you have killing monsters more on your mind? For PVM it can be very useful as even if you are fighting a monster with magery (ability to cure) the monster will spend time curing itself rather than casting on you. From a PVP standpoint poisoning is not as useful as generally those you fight will be chugging cure potions. If you choose to not go with poisoning on this character you could then think towards GMing parry and then you could do 35 magery/the rest hiding or something such as that. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have other questions!!
Hello! Welcome to the shard! I invite you to join the IRC channel #PS for any of these, and other, questions you have. Main UOR IRC channel is good too, but #PS is the channel for a new player guild here on the shard, and we can answer any question you have and get you on your way to being awesome in this game and on this shard! Hope to see you in game. ~Krake
I run 80 imagery on my nox fencer an have no issue. but as far as being new just be aware of the fact that it costs roughly 300k to gm poisoning so it's very expensive. And what weapons I use is a long spear for para and top end damage and a dp'ed war fork which has a good damage rate with decent swing speed.I find the fork better then a kryss (it may be faster but the damage is too low) if ur comparing the two. Also if ur planning on pvming then parry may be useful but better with swords then fencing I would say but if ur going to pvp then I would completely drop parry being that u won't run into that many pvp situations where u will need a shield.
What is your goal for this character? I don't know much about parry, but I do know that a lot of people don't use it on this shard. Magery as your 7th gm skill would be your standard nox fencer template. You could also drop poisoning to 30 (so you can still get lesser poisons off), and take up 70 med for a little more versatility.
my dexxer is going to be mainly pvm for cash flow and i think ive decided to drop magery all together and gm parry...i figured the trade off is worth a couple fizzled scrolls...lol also i have a crafter making poison for my fencer which will hopefully drop the price a little bit lol, im aware that it will be expensive but so far ive been doing alright. thanks for the input though it is very appreciated!
Here's something to read while you macro your character: http://uorforum.com/threads/pvm-frustrations-of-a-dexxer-guild.12514/
Starting on a new server with nothing is a lot of fun. I have been seeing a lot of helping new player threads lately. I really hope PS and others are not giving these new players items and houses since the most fun is building your foundation. At the same time it would increase the activity in dungeons. I also think magic weapons drop way too generously and should be more scarce.
