I've seen people training frenzieds, so there must be some benefit, heh. I imagine that they'd be a bit cumbersome to control, but in certain circumstances they could be quite effective.
@Unknown_Hero well it works! That makes me want to test the arachnid pack bonus... I wonder if it helps their poisoning ability. I have been told that the pack bonus is by group(all same type of pack instinct) & number. For ostards it seems to max out at 5 for 100% bonus. Maybe the arachnid bonus works the same way, anyone know for sure?
As far as I could tell based on some default RunUO code, poisoning in monsters is based on their Poisoning skill. Chance to poison on hit equals their skill (so 85.7% chance at 85.7 Poisoning), but the level of poison is fixed by monster type. I think Scorpions have the highest level of poison in a tameable. Pack instinct only works with fists/wrestling damage.
Keza - this is pretty cool. Do you have a separate tamer character that you get all the stars (frenzied and otherwise) from? This build would be fun to attempt once I am finished up with my first.
Hi @Ren I get all my ostards with Keza. If your looking to try the build later you can always get an ossy from me at http://uorforum.com/threads/selling-ossytanks.9154/. It is a fun build so I hope you do try it! Fair warning though... its not so hot for PVP lol.
Welcome Mary Jane! May your adventures be many and your tales not a few. although this land is full of amazing people, it also abounds with danger! there are many good guides for general house security and personal protection on the forums. Best of luck
Hi all, I had a lot of fun with the easter event! Check out how my ostards fair against the easter bunny and Fluffy!
Hi Keza Im just toying with an idea here, but whats your take on the result of my brain firing in all directions? : GM Macing GM Tactics GM Anatomy GM Veterinary GM Animal Lore GM Musicianship GM Enticement/Discord I already run a dungeon chest lockpicker who also functions as a Gate bot for my peacemaking, lumberjack warrior to get around despite 0 magery. Edit: Perhaps drop tactics by 25 points and Animal lore by 25 points, use a +25 weapon to still have 100 tactics and grab 50 healing so i have some form of recovery for the inevitable times when i take a hit or a spell to the face. Would look like this: GM Macing 75 Tactics GM Anatomy GM Veterinary 75 Animal Lore GM Musicianship GM Enticement/Discord 50 Healing Cure pot takes care of poison. Obviously cant run frenzied packs with this setup, due to lack of taming. Could drop(I think?) Animal lore enough to use recall scrolls but would hurt the healing a little. Dont know if its worth it since ill still need to use the gatebot unless i want to leave my pets hanging. Any thoughts?Critique?Suggestions?
Hi Cordelia, I like what your going for but its putting too many character types into one. There is just not enough room to do a dexer/bard/vet. I recommend one of the following 3 builds for you. GM Magery GM Med GM (Eval int/resist/taming) GM Veterinary GM Animal Lore GM Musicianship GM Enticement/Discord GM Macing GM Tactics GM Anatomy GM Veterinary GM Animal Lore GM Healing 70 Resist 30 Magery GM Swords 90 Tactics GM Anatomy GM Veterinary GM Animal Lore 90 Healing 90 Lumber Jacking 30 Magery The last build here would be your best bet as your damage output will be at its max! A trained forest ostard can tank dragons, titans, even a colossus. You'ed be able to stand their healing it and dish out huge damage with a vanq or slayer axe.
Thanks alot for the feedback buddy. Most of the stuff is still just in my head, always fun to tinker and think up different and subtle ways to change a build around completely as a result. Youve given me a lot to look at and ponder! Hope you arent running out of ostards anytime soon.. gonna finish two characters to try two variations of everything thats been discussed here, and maybe hit you up in 10-12 days for a double pack lol. See if you cant bribe a bank vendor into putting ostards in a commodity deed. Seriously though, thanks a bunch for the feedback and suggestions!
@Cordelia Black if you plan on using 5+ tames, check out the how-to-use video on them. http://uorforum.com/threads/guide-to-using-single-slot-tames.10783/
Thank you, ill start reading now and bookmark it for a re-read when im ready for the pack life! Very nice of you to take the time (answering questions in IRC and here). Appreciate it. Edit: Oh its another video guide/tutorial! I much prefer those, easier to absorb the information when you see it in action too. Thanks a bunch!
Trying this but with Archery, like a Hunter with Tank Pet, one thing u forgot to mention is that u need 30.0 Taming to Bond the Ossy Tank. (Not sure if u need to keep the skill after Bonding tho) Archery 100 Tactics 100 Anatomy 100 Healing 100 A.Lore 100 Veterinary 100 Magery 70 Taming 30 Easy to train, so far by far my favorite char. Tnx for the idea. ** Went for Fencing after checking the Dmg on all weapons, and yea, Archery does little DMG compared to the cost of arrows.
@Luis Ordaz I have heard of others having this problem with needing some taming skill to bond. I never had a single point of taming on Keza Warrior and was able to bond several different forest ostards. Not sure whats causing some players to need it, and others not to. As for your build, it will be fun but archery is hard if your a new player. The damage per minute(dpm) is the lowest of any weapon skill and your arrows/bolts end up costing a bit of money. To get a better idea of archery vs. other weapons skills, check the Weapon Damage Sheet.
Hi @Luis Ordaz you would need somewhere around 75 taming to have a frenzied transferred to you. 80+ taming to fully control a frenzied.
