I'm looking to survey what UO:R players are effectively hunting with the primary aid of summoned pets. This includes but is not limited to... Blade Spirit Daemon Energy Vortex For example: I have a character that I assist other players with (pure bard) and haven't solo hunted with. For reasons undetermined, I've headed out solo with it to see what it's capable of. Musicianship Provocation Peacemaking Enticement (discordance) Magery Meditation Hiding Terathans / Ophidians I've had a fair bit of fun with these. Variety, fast spawn, and fairly decent loot. I've created chaos with provocation and used a variety of summons. Energy Vortex primarily. I've found that my summons aren't dispelled all that often. Evil Mages The dispel rate is too high. Then again, the reagents dropped well made up for the extra casting. Creating chaos with a Daemon and a few blade spirits did okay. Balrons While the loot is great, the experience... not so much. I nearly fell asleep were it not for the need to keep an eye out for reds. Were it not for barding, summons would be a no go. Even still, they're dispelled often. Waiting till 1/2 health (or so) before using summons seems to relieve the frustration a bit. Overall, it's a waiting game. Succubus Meh. I didn't spend much time here but, I think I'd choose these over Balrons due to barding difficulty. Similar hunting experience to Balrons with the exception of summons being neigh ineffective. Barding did most of the work here. On another character, I use EV's quite often on other players/pets. Not much to say other than it's effective in the right circumstances. So how about you? What can you do with your summons with a tolerable dispel rate?
I managed to kill an arctic ogre mage once with my provo mage. Provoked him onto a regular arctic ogre, then spammed blade spirits over and over until it was done. Forgot who showed me how to do that.
I left magery on my lumberjack and use scrolls to cast EVs and daemons. They are good support when a PK shows up.
It's not very easy to do but if you can manage to cast a blade spirit and then immediately place a poison field on the boss/monster the AI will choose to cure before dispel every time. Once you get the poison field down you can just spam blade spirits until the boss dies. Just make sure to keep that poison field down the entire time otherwise the boss will dispel everything within seconds.
Yes, keeping a mob or PK poisoned via a summoned creature/field goes a long way to curbing their offensive capability.
http://uorforum.com/threads/guide-arctic-ogre-mage-sleeper-hold.6423/ The theory behind it applies to a lot of different bosses, destard for instance.
Yes, its fairly easy to kill an Arctic Ogre Mage with a pure Mage if you know how to do it. One of my favourite hunting spots is also Wrong Dungeons Executioners. 1 Bladespirit per executioner, a chance to spawn a boss (which can be killed easy with bladespirits), silver weapon drops as well as a nice amount of plats over time is making that spot pretty lucrative for pure mages. Oh, and dont forget the clothes a grand visor can drop Its also a bit more fun and challenging, since there are tons of traps around, which makes fights vs pks entertaining too.
