2,462 miles away from the server, on 4g lte internet, pinging 92 to 140 all morning, 132 average.. as good as I can expect, ping is as good to uor as it's ever been, and I haven't seen a single hiccup, stutter, delay in spell cast, no waiting for houses to load. Thanks! It was rough the previous 1.5 or 2 weeks but this is as good as I can expect I believe for being so far on this type of net!
Server connection issue update *spoof* (I wrote this a while back and wasn't sure if it was postable, was told people would get a laugh from it) A few weeks ago we started having connection issues with the server, after multiple conversations with the McDonalds night shift manager on 5th and Long we narrowed it down to 2 things. 1. The server currently resides above the false ceiling in the men's restroom above stall 2. This has been a great way to save on server fees and costs along with the fact I can get a big mac every time I the server needs a hard reset. With the player base growing as it has the laptop has been working over time and become more unstable. After many tests we found the large lag spikes have been happening when ever anyone flushes either stall 2 or 3 but not stall 1. This issue has become more noticeable since Donald Trump won the election. Due to his "Make America Great Again" policies the city is building a new city hall next door and the restroom has been busy all day long. 2. After much deliberation and testing we finally narrowed down the packet loss to the new BBQ rib sandwich they have been selling. Due the to the high sulfur content of the special sauce the auxiliary exhaust fan in the restroom has been kicking on more then usual. Due to wear on the fan motor wear it appears to be putting off a harmonic oscillation that is on the same wave length as the wifi signal and in turn causing sever packet loss until it clears the odor and kicks off. To address these issues we will be moving the server to the antiquated train station restroom on the corner of 8th and Elm street. This is restroom has been updated with the newer no flush organic toilets that currently rely on organic extra strong bowl mints to kill odor. Also on the plus side the entire station still has the original paint job. The lead paint coupled with the long hallway leading to the restroom will act as a intensifier for streaming our signal to the current wifi receiver in the main office. All in all this should be a fairly easy migration and we expect minimal server down time while we make the move. As another note we are hoping to get our hands on one of the self check out lanes from the local Wal-Mart when they do their register upgrades early this summer. If this happens we would most likely postpone CUB for at least another year as we would have double the hard drive space plus a huge CPU upgrade. Stay tuned for new updates!
