Should boats be placeable in standing water? (Poll)

Discussion in 'Renaissance Discussion' started by Blaise, Mar 12, 2013.

Should players be able to launch ships in standing water with no where to sail?

  1. No, this is ridiculous and makes no logical sense and/or serves no good purpose

I'm not trying to be unreasonable, it's just lame in my opinion. This isn't a matter of accuracy it's a matter of purpose and boats in stationary positions serve none but blockers and nuisances (to some).
This thread is for sharing opinions. I'm glad so many still have them. ;)

Faster boat decay would be a cool change considering boats realistically do in fact decay/wear much faster than homes in general.
I still feel that balance would include such things as aesthetics and functional logic. A boat in a body of water, that cannot move, is illogical. The suggestions of dry-docking/launching from docks, is. Same with faster decay rates.
Not something I'm going to rage or quit over, or I would have by now. I'm sure Tater is more upset by how little I have raged about it, than I am about his sad little boat placement.

You all know I'm an annoying prick about things like this as well as the ghastly sans serif fonts in everything and the clusters of homes in stables/graveyards. It's just lame in my opinion and really unattractive from this Ultima lover's perspective. I understand that several people want to play in a bland mess of illogical tripe. To each their own. ;)

Haha Blaise... with you it's always a good discussion, no matter what your angle. :) I can't get behind arguments about the logic or ill-logic of boats in UO because there's so much about them that is illogical and accepted.

    Drydock = a 1:16 scale boat-to-go in your backpack.
Just add water and it expands into a full-sized vessel again.
No matter their heading, boats always travel at the same speed because it's all tailwinds and no headwinds in Britannia.
A locked boat is impossible to board. Completely secure.
    Sailboats can travel straight sideways.

I could think of more but I'm sure I've made my point.

If that makes you upset this probably makes you pass out when you walk past it.

The two at the gate of the cemetary are the worst. I will again state that if anyone wants to sell any of these properties, I am interested for the sake of demolishing the eyesores on the shard.

I love this idea, but with a slight addition.

How about making docks available as house add-ons, available only through the npc shipwrights? Docks are already available to player-run towns/communities, so the code alkready exists, basically. Therse "Private Docks" would be linked to a house, and the house would have to have a waterfront. Furthermore, these "Private Docks" would have 2 to 5 (depending on size purchased) locking berths that the owner would set to All, Friends, Co-Owners, or Owner of the house that the dock was linked to. Make any ship berthed to that dock match the status of the house. This way, ships properly moored, or berthed, would have the full two week decay rate as they have now. Once untethered from that private dock, a ship would have it's 48-hr clock start.

    Okay, one final thought.

I do agree with Blaise that no ship should be "placeable" in what amounts to little more than a puddle. Now there are one or two small boddies of water which I would clasify as a pond or small lake. These ponds and/or small lakes, as well as canals that are connected to the sea, should still allow for ship placement. That is my humble opinion.

I know for sure that guy wouldn't like people sailing over leaving their rubbish behind and upsetting the villagers.

Boats dont constitue problem imo. Maybe an eyesore to some but legal.

I dont care for the GY houses and that they were GFed. I understand it's not fair to take away a house someone placed legally at the time but they should be taken down imo, at least the one right at the gate entrance.

It's really not about it being a problem that impacts gameplay. Much like the GY houses, it is just silly. It doesn't make any sense and should not be there.
