Hey all! I just stumbled on this. Its......amazing, to say the least. The dedication and patience. I dont want to spoil it more. Just check this video out, and watch all of them that she has posted so far. Also, lets get this girl to our server!! ~Krake
I don't have a twitter but if any of you do, drop her a message with link to this server. Based on the video part V I have a feeling that she would be a really good contestant in home deco competition. https://twitter.com/Andrea_Fryer
Friendly greetings folks! Someone commented on one of the Ultima Nostalgia videos, "sending love from this community", so of course I had to come and see for myself *grins*. Thank you for the interest and gestures of support! Aww thanks guys! I'm honored y'all would have me here. But I'm afraid that my UO playing days are over. I played it for so long and so much. Too much of a good thing I suppose. *smiles wistfully* Oh me too. When playing UO, I've been a die-hard fan of the classic client. Isometric pixel art all the way. Back in the day, I was fighting long and hard to preserve the pixel art of UO. I was getting really annoyed that with each new expansion we were getting crappy outsourced artwork by people who didn't understand the essence of the UO art. And then when they started rendering frames from really bad 3d models and slapped them straight into the game without any pixel art retouching, then I really lost my patience haha. The classic client and the original art style defined by the original UO artists - all the way! My only problem with the Britain video is that for that video, I didn't write myself a script - so it's a bit clumsy and long drawn. Lots of umms and aaahs. For the rest of the videos I've wrote a script which helped keeping things short and snappy. I think my favorite so far is the hedge maze video. It has really nice music too.
Wow this actually worked ! Hey there @Saphireena I'm glad you joined our community, even if your stay turns to be brief. I watched few of your videos and I really enjoyed them. Especially the history of your little shop, nightclub and all the other projects you created. Too bad that you don't have time for the game anymore. This server really delivers all the nostalgia of old times and our community is amazing. I'm sure that you would enjoy the home deco contest and you wouldn't make it easy for other folks to claim the first place.
Come on guys, more peer pressure!!! @Saphireena Loved the video about the nightclub and other businesses you ran in the past, to me that kind of thing is the best part of UO! IF you ever decide to come back to UO, this is the place to be. Many players here run their own events and establishments, there's the Howling sausage tavern, I've run Rat Roulette events in my Cove Casino, theres dexxer only Braveheart battles, the hilarious "Hide, seek and kill" events, and so on. More entrepreneurial players are always appreciated
Funny, I stumbled upon that site years ago. It's immensely useful for finding little things here and there that our memories forgot about how UO used to be. It's amazing what you'll find when you comb through the screenshots: http://andrea.net/uo/general/screenshots/
*grins* Well here's a promise for you. If I ever decide to play UO again, this server will be my first stop. I've heard many good things about, already before this conversation . Gosh that does sound like a lot of fun . I agree completely though - the fact that UO provides all the tools and environment for players to create these things, makes it very special indeed. One of my favorite experiences was a cock fighting tournament and I remember training my little chicken for weeks. Only in UO. *sighs wistfully* I find it absolutely astonishing that so few MMO developers have incorporated these aspects into their games. Themepark MMOs are such a bore! Man, to think that people still visit that old site. And you know I have so many screenshots I have not yet put in there? I really should! Thank ye kindly! I'm determined to see this through to the end! Eek! Oh gosh, thievery. Another thing I miss from UO sooo much. I had so much fun playing my little thief girl back before renaissance.
I think I know what the next event needs to be. This or dog fights. Maybe with light gambling? *grin* Tagging people I know who have done events with sea or land animals: @Zyler @chumbucket @Saphireena Thank u for documenting your stories on the website as well. Really brings it back. I really should have done this as well during my 1999 UO days.
I tried using chickens once.... took too long. Sounds like I need to resurrect Ultimate Gorilla Fighting! Those loveable fleabags hit pretty hard AND they make the awesome "UAUAUGHGHGHGHGHGHG" sound when they keel over!!!
There was a dog fights event years ago on Moonglow in the SW cotton field. There was a dog category and wolf category. I won with a non-tamer, tamed, untrained wolf. I looked for the event post but couldn't find. There were also a rat fight or two years ago. I found & tamed a sewer rat before the tamer quest was implemented and thought for certain I would win. But this time my non-tamer, tamed, untrained pet didn't win. =( Both were fun events. There were also summoner wars which were also lots of fun.
I wish I saw the recording session for the gorilla, as it is so obviously some guy just going AGHGAGHAGHGHHAGH.
Wow! The most legendary of all UO Fashionistas appears. Nostalgia bomb!!! (I used to straight up steal outfits/deco from your site)
@Saphireena Your creation was pretty awesome, great attention to detail. This server is VERY close to what UO Felt like Circa 99.. Very nostalgic, FANTASTIC community. I hear ya though too much of a great thing is no good. Have you given us a try though?
Oh gosh, it's so true. We should all document these memories somehow. You know, I took tons and tons and tons of screenshots of my WoW years (and still have them) and have always been meaning to make a website about them, even designed what the site could look like. But I never got around to making it and writing the stories. And now I just have many gigs of screenies and can barely remember what was happening in them. I regret that so much! The same thing will happen with Wurm if I don't watch out! D'awwww! Well those beautiful outfits were mostly thanks to the amazing sense of fashion Britannians used to have back in the day. Before the NEON DYES came. Arrghhh! *curtsies* Oh gosh, '99 - the best time ever! Don't tempt me! You guys are really making my "no more UO" decision hard. Damnit! Well for now, I at least have to finish the Ultima Nostalgia project and see if there is some way to allow people to live there without burdening me too much. Then I invested in 2 upcoming MMOs, Wild West Online and Albion Online, so we'll see how those turn out. Fast forward to a point in time where the Wurm server is finished, and to a point where I've realized that both of those new MMOs are a disappointment - if I'm finding myself with nothing to do, I'll come give this server a whirl. And no, I never have (given this server a try).
I admire the path your pursuing with Albion. However I've found most people (Including Richard Garriot) that regurgitate the phrasing " We are inspired by UO " are simply looking to re create UO's massive success in the player ran micro transaction market! Garriot with his shroud of the Avatar knows the way to the players heart is extra items for extra RL space trip cash! I feel Albion is walking in the same footsteps, though I'm not sure. UO:R Here I feel really captivated what UO in 99 SHOULD have become... It has a few tasteful additions, they modified the castle for one (yahoo) and they expanded on the game in a "factory" kind of way by adding some flavor to different ways to enjoy the game. Such as taming quests, special dungeons for fishers and treasure hunters, this was all done while still preserving the original nostalgia of the game.... Yea.. I'm trying to make it hard for ya to stick to your no more UO decision! See ya in Britannia? Who will you be? (Old school t2a advertisement on the game Box)
