General somewhat related questions.. is there a way to tell if your character is marked as perma as a result of stealing?
And, is there a way to tell if another player is marked as perma as a result of stealing?

Forensics is the cool and appropriate way.

The old school sort of cheat was to use the Stealing skill on the player in question. If you're not a thief or in the thieves guild it says something like you need to be, in order to steal. If it doesn't say that, they are perma, or something like that.

I made a GM forensics character which seems to be totally useless so far.
When using forensics on bodies in and around occlo, have never gotten any useful information.

As blaise mentioned, use stealing on the player in question. If they are perma, you will attempt to steal and either succeed or fail, either of which means you have discovered a perma grey thief and can kill them at your discretion. If they are not perma, regardless of whether or not they are even thieves, you will get the message "you must be in the thieves guild to steal from other players", thus indicating they are not perma and you may not kill them at your discretion.
    Blaise and Everlast like this.

It's really best used for thieves because of the updated mechanic here. It gives a nice system message but as for seeing who has touched corpses, that still works fine if I recall correctly.
