I'm All for Boombox exploding on snoop... exploding if double clicked on right now the only people you can kill with a boombox is your rl dad who wants to raise detect hidden and you tell him you put 20 in the chest and tell him to hit it with an axe so they stack on the ground so he can gain detect hidden faster... and the 10 second laugh...

The last time this topic was discussed by staff there was a general agreement across the board that the most favorable & overall balanced mechanics for how tinker traps should operate & trigger would be those that existed prior to the mechanics in place now & existed during T2A. To my knowledge this has not changed & there are plans to revert the mechanics back to that system, but Chris would have to confirm whether or not that is still the case.

Specifically, setting a tinker trap on a lock-able container should arm the trap directly & not require it to be locked in order for the trap to arm. Additionally, there is no need to either destroy or lockpick the container to set off the trap since arming it doesn't require it be locked. I believe these are the only differences between the existing mechanics & those prior to them, but I haven't looked into the issue in quite some time & may be overlooking other features which conflict with the current setup.

My vote for boom boxes! I also like chum's idea of the fully plated bomb suits with 120 hp the only ones able to withstand them..

I definitely favor Tinker traps and vote for this change.

I remember back in the day running through Deceit for my first time. I found a chest by a wall in the duo lich room, I went to open it up and bam I was dead. I also looted a small box off a LL thinking I looted someones goodie bag and BAM dead, then the tinker comes out of hiding and loots me, LOL. I used to worry about evey box or chest I found thinking it was gonna explode or poison me.

How can you not want that implemented, it brings a little bit more fun to the game? Smart Tinkers will sit back cracking up and if you're one of the victims you can laugh at how dumb you were for opening it :).

Not just the boombox......when I first started I opened a poison trap and got poisoned, this was when you could heal through it.....I had 2 GM mages trying to cure and 3 GM healers keeping me alive......after about 20 minutes we all gave up and let me die.....that lvl 6 poison was tough back then!!!!

Sounds like an epic adventure. I look forward to seeing hijinks like this in the future of UOR.

I would love for this to be reinstated. Does anyone know if this is still being considered?

As far as I know, its still on the table. There have simply been other priorities being worked on.

Another bump for great justice. Please yes on real trapped containers. I wonder if we can get a Trammy Gump Notice for this. Like in Call of Duty, when a grenade lands at your feet and you die, it pops up and says "Hey, pay attention to the grenade indicator." Something here could say "Hey, don't open unknown containers without taking precautions like Detect Hidden, Remove Trap or use of the Telekinesis spell.

I use to have a blast (no pun intended) on UO secondage with trapped boxes. Then one day someone put a trapped box on the steps of every players house. That was the end of blowing anyone up. From that time on people just telekines the boxes instead of clicking. Remember who that was Downs? ;)

This change should be seen soon, as it ties into our larger crafting patch in the works.

Last year I went around and popped myself on at least 2-3 dozen of the chumboxes on doorsteps. I eagerly await the opportunity to do the same here. :)

Couples weeks ago I decided to get back at UO. Been gone for 2 years. Install and log on other server to see if there is people around.

All macros and razors options freshly installed you know....

So I log on, and boom myself on my 3 main characters because I was carrying boxes decoy against thieves ( stacking identical box over my regs box ).

Heart pounding and best laugh i've got always involved a boom box !

Can't wait to see the tweaks and keep up the good work.

I do recall ren era (I started renaissance release) that GM tinker traps would do like 60+ Damage. Usually killing the person. And if I recall GM poison trapped boxes were very hard to cure (if at all possible with GM magery) but could be cured much easier with GM heal/anat.
    +1 for this.
