I don't have Med and almost never miss it. I'd leave Med on the template until you GM Magery, then drop it.
Whoops! For some reason I read you did have med on that build, sorry! Ok I think I'll aim for a similar build down the line. Thanks!
FWIW, I also have a traditional tamer/mage: Taming/Lore/Vet/Magery/EI/Med/Resist I find him easier to use for taming dragons and such, but not by a large margin.
Currently I run a discordance template...was thinking of dropping meditation for provoke to help with my treasure maps. I have never run a template like that, actually might be fun.
Tmaps are my primary activity. I provoke pairs and then disco singles for the drags to take down faster. Disco has a huge impact on things like Balrons.
Thats the exact build I went with last night. My OSI Tamer was Taming Vet Lore Eval Magery Resist Med But that was more for a PvP/PK tamer which I didn't plan on doing with the new one here... so I dropped that idea.
Keep in mind that in Destard there are plenty of drakes and wyverns to provoke onto first. So your chances aren't as bleak as the math makes it seem. I don't really know why you'd feel the need to bring your own dragons to Destard if you have provo, though. I check in on balrons with my provo tamer now and again to remind myself that I'll just never like hunting there. Turns out I'm not a fan armed with disco either. . . But it makes more sense. It's pretty easy to separate them.
