Just to be clear, I could careless.. My comments were generally that this could open up a door for players to trade in game items for real life items. So in game items can be traded for graphic work? So where is the line and where does it stop? Beer would only have value to the person it is traded too - who wants sloppy seconds in beer? but again, make your signatures and let people pay you in game - I really don't have a problem.
Forums and irc is half the game for me anyways. I see no difference in forum flare that takes hours to complete than hiring someone to kill lizard men for two days for me to pay em. If it was something that had use outside of this close community I may have to consider it something different, like if it was printed on shirt and mailed to me for example, that would be different. Maybe the line would be real life services rendered, or something I could turn for real life profit or any gain outside of this game. It's still an extension of the game to me. Edit: and also its gold changing hands and not new money entering the world, only difference is the artist spends it and not the purchasers. It was already in existence so it isn't like a creator has the advantage to make new money others can't have and one player having the advantage of new millions entering the world.
all kidding aside, I don't take this personal, I share your same concerns about altering a virtual economy with real life currency, I just don't see this as the twist that would change forever the economy of this server, nor the open door to the shady transaction world...
@E1000 your images would be amazing and a great contribution to the immersion of our virtual world I say. Although, I guess this could become an issue in the delicate juridic system of ours, now that we've almost reached FBI standards etc, as of recent events. I would wanna say: "Meh, this isn't an abuse and it's a really nice thing.." But it might be difficult predicting what this would allow in the long run.
I love the idea. I thinks it sounds cool as hell. I see no problem with people implementing the skills they have irl into making something for the players on the forums as long as the price is INGAME items or gold etc.
