Heya all! Trying to find a tuturial or some knowledge in targeting in UOR. The question is pretty simple, but might give lots of diffrent answers. The question it: How do you target mobs/players? Yupp, one way is to try and drag status bar up and target it, Another is just to click/d-click the mob/player depending what action you wanna do... I wanna do it the button way, so how do you do? this question is both for PvP and PvM. so for PvP: PK comes up, with a pre casted spell / or a dexxor shows up, and milliseconds after they beeing spotted "name is attacking you" Do you use razors targeting system or do you use UO Clints buildt in targeting? PvM the same, how should I be effectiv in targetting? Looking for a guide, or if a experienced played could share thier information about how to use the targeting system like a pro and what buttons you are using. Thanks
Razor, Hotkeys Tab, Targets subsection. Target nearest Murderer (red) Target nearest Innocent Humanoid (blue, human body type only) Target nearest Enemy (orange, faction/wars/OC) Target nearest Grey (grey/animals/monsters mostly) Target Self I have all of those on every combative character as well as Last Target, Attack Last Target, Clear Target Queue and ehhhh I think that's it.
Thanks for the reply! Lots of buttons to remember, but I will give it a try to find out some kinda setup that I can manage Is target next/prev used at all or is it just confusing?
I do what Blaise does (minus queing targets etc). Howerver most often I just hold ctrl + shift and drag the healthbar from above their head.
I've learned something as well, why some players will cast on me than go oh sorry. Didn't mean you Thanks guys/gals and all other beings lol Fotsvett, welcome aboard. Westra irc/ Marjo in game .....
Always wondered about how to make the targeting work and now I have some very useful information. Thanks alot everyone. Anyone got some spare RAM memory to put in my brain so I can remember all the buttons Ty for the welcoming
lol at ram memory. Stay up for 48 hours, just clicking those hot keys until they are literately burnt into your brain. UO version of RAM
I use next humanoid target and closest criminal/murder/enemy (these are on mouse side buttons) and I have a hotkey for each friendly. I queue. I do not use bars. Obviously, I also have hotkeys for last target, target self and cancel current target. For pvm I mostly use nearest non-friendly and I run up toward what I want to attack.
Great thread. I was wondering that myself these days. So If I arrive at a dungeon with several grey monsters and use target nearest grey it will target the nearest one obviously, right? It works great if there's only one monster around, but when there's 3 around you? How it will work? How's queueing?
Razor's 'next target' and 'next humanoid target' are very handy to scroll through the available targets on your screen.
I think a veteran player/pvper will use a combination of methods. There are humanoid and non humanoid versions of most of these in razor and humanoid should be used for pvp situations/characters. Acquiring targets: Ctrl+Shift- Part of your UO client by default - If there is time prior to or a slow moment before/during a battle you should absolutely press ctrl+shift and pull the nameplates so you can see them clearly and target them manually if the situation calls for it. Next Target (Next Humanoid Target) - Razor->Hotkeys->Targets - You can press this to cycle through targets on screen setting them as your last target (this will not use up any target cursor you already have prepared). In a small or medium sized battle or moving/chasing battle it's a great way to acquire either an enemy or friendly target for attacking/healing. Target Nearest Grey/Red/Enemy/Friendly -Razor->Hotkeys->Targets - This is a must have for large battles and small alike. It will both set your last target to, and use any target cursor on whatever the nearest of that type is to your player. Set Last Target -Razor->Hotkeys->Targets Just what it sounds like - You press this then target the mobile you want to set as your new last target in preparation of using skills/items/spells on it. Interacting with targets: Last Target - Razor->Hotkeys->Targets - Place this somewhere you can access easily and often. Like your mousewheel. This uses a targetting cursor (like a spell or skill) on whatever was targetted last aside from yourself. Target Self - Razor->Hotkeys->Targets - Place this in a similar fashion as last target. Uses a cursor or skill on you - for healing/invising yourself. Attack Last Target - Razor->Hotkeys-Targets - Puts you in combat with, and makes your character swing/shoot at whatever is your last target. Important for everyone, but especially dex based characters. Target Queuing - Razor->Options - Completely optional and mostly unadvised. This interacts with target self and last target such that you can tell Razor to target the player/self with the next abilitiy/skill/spell when a cursor appears. If you do not disable this then you will need a Clear Target Queue hotkey found under Razor->Hotkeys->Targets and you will need to use it often and become acclimated with clearing your target queue so you don't accidentally heal an enemy or damage yourself. Bandage Self - Razor->Hotkeys-Items - Just what it sounds like - finds a bandage in your backpack and begins applying it to yourself.
If they are all literally surrounding you, I'm not positive in what order it considers 'nearest' of the 8 surrounding tiles. I know on my bard, I have target nearest grey right next to my Use Provo hotkey. This way I use provo, tap the target key then move closer to the intended target and tap it again. It saves a lot of miss clicks and whatnot but isn't always effective (distance/etc). I generally try to get bars up as quickly as possible in pvm as well so I can see what mob is about to die so I can focus on the other or provoke it on something else. On my warriors, I literally spam Target Nearest Grey and Attack Last Target over and over. People I've fought in Factions can probably attest to how often or quickly I target/attack nearest orange on my melee guys. lol
I use provo, nearest grey, next target, last target when I'm getting inundated on my bard. These are important to know too: "Use smart last target - When this box is checked, Razor will use beneficial and harmful spells according to your previous actions. For example, in battle if you cast Energy Bolt(harmful spell) at an enemy and Greater Heal(beneficial spell) at a friend, Razor will remember the last targets for each spell type. The next time you cast a harmful spell with last target, Razor will target the enemy even if you just cast GH on your friend with last target. Range check Last Target: __ tiles - This option will have Razor check that last target is within range. If it's not, Razor sends a warning message and your target is not cancelled out. Last Target can be selected to try again without having to bring the cursor up a second time. Select the number of tiles, within game allowances." Check out this thread: http://uorforum.com/threads/renaissance-guide-to-razor.3671/ Also, if you use queue, whatever your last target is set to when the cursor comes up is targeted and NOT what your last target is when you pushed the button.
thanks everyone, now I feel just to friggin old to play this game now. My eyes started to gloss over about here To the OP, be a man and do it old school. Click and drag off of their sprite to bring up their name bar. With practice and decent mouse precision, you can get very, VERY, efficient and quick at this. For some down and dirty stuff like targeting any person/place/thing from stealth, use a dagger and target it with that to set your last target. To my knowledge, there are not any instant recycle skills here. Detect hidden and taste ID used to be good skills to set your target with as well.
On my mousewheel, I use Wheel Up (roll forward) for Last Target and I use CTRL + Wheel Up for Set Last Target (also an option in Razor). Welcome to RazUOR. I've never used next target in any combat situations as it seems weird to me that if I wanted another target I may have to cycle through a couple to get there. Also, I think this guide I wrote can be very useful, even for PvM players: http://uorforum.com/threads/the-newbie-refresher-guide-to-pvp.2666/ (noteworthy: 666 in the thread ID = Beast Mode)
Wow, good call. I don't know if I knew this at one point and forgot, or never knew but I sure wasn't doing it. Very helpful function. I made one for attack last when I came back to UO and the first thing I did was forget my key bindings and used it on an NPC in town, lol. It took me a minute to figure out why I got gaurd whacked seemingly out of the blue.
+1 on this. It's painful at large CTF's or something like that (unless you're just a maniac), but for 1v1 or 2v2 or 3v3, it's super useful and won't accidentally have you lobbing explosions at a dire wolf that wandered onscreen.
Great information! Always wondered how players were targeting so fast. Awesome.. Thanks a bunch for all replies... +1 to everyone!!
