Need help getting started on a mage/warrior combo. Not sure which skills to begin training first since I'm new. If anyone has some advice it'd be greatly appreciated!

    Hello and welcome!

By mage/warrior do you mean primarily uses a weapon and magery as utility or vice versa? More dex than int or more int than dex?
Traditionally speaking, I know of tank mages and med warriors.

Tank mages are cut and dry. Med warrior templates and training priority is rather subjective.

    ... also,

By "train" do you mean attended game play or overnight macroing?

Sorry to answer a question with a question but, I hesitate to make recommendations without these details.

    Hello and welcome to UOR.

Being new, I would suggest you do one of two things. If you want to work your mage/warrior character first, I suggest you work on the warrior skills, get them high enough to start stock piling gold for regents for your magic training.

Second suggestion: Make a miner character, start collecting ingots to sell to other players. Again with idea of stock piling gold for magic training. You can also give this miner warrior skills for later on; we have gargoyle pick axes and shovels here. Warrior miner would come in handy for these.

I think you will really enjoy playing on UOR, we have a fantastic staff and great player community.

Good luck with whatever you decide and hope to see you in game.

Primary weapon usage. I honestly could really use info on both attended gameplay and macroing.

Well first, @newme 's suggestions are golden.

    Attended Play/Skill Training

I love this guide for attended playing. It's a good way to have fun and progress at the same time.

It shows the player how to jump right in with both feet (something I'll always support).

    Unattended Play/Skill Training

This link jumps to a section of a post all about Razor and what you can do with it. If you need any help with it, contact me in IRC user: wylwrk.

A character whom uses a weapon as their primary damage source and their own health pool / armor as defense and the content it can perform well at is a hot topic not just here but in Ultima Online in general. However, pointing back to newme's advice one can play a "dexxer" (warrior) and excel at mining!

Yes, mining. Here, you can smash elementals and golems to bits with an axe and collect ingots as an occupation.
This puts you in a great position as a supplier of not only ingots but wooden boards as well.

The Med. Warrior template might be suitable for you to learn one or two things about the game.

Its a versitile Template, which uses Magery only for support and utility (Heals, Cures, Poisons, Summons, etc)
Its a decent template to learn a few things about the game and also useful to get some experience in pvp later on.

If youre interested in melee weapons on a warrior, Fencing would be the best option here in my opinion.

The skills for that template would be:

    Fencing
    Anatomy
    Tactics
    Healing
    Magery
    Meditation
    Resisting Spells

There are a lot of other viable templates however, but with a core like this one its pretty easy to switch between them.
(drop Healing for eval. int for example to become a Tankmage and use offensive spells.. etc)

Good luck, and welcome to UOR

The financial/template advice above is good. It's a matter of personal preference in how you want to play, but the med dexxer template that Ezra recommended is pretty solid. If you're not that experienced at mage combat, the med-dexxer will give you at least a good idea of using magery defensively, at least against non-melee opponents. You may have more trouble getting pummeled when you're disarmed. Macing is also a nice option, but para-blow and the option to use poisoned weapons never hurt.

A good complex build between dexer and mage can be found and used as either pvp or high field pvp.

    I suggest the Hybrid

90 str 110 str (strength pot)
    80 dex buffed= 100 dex (dex pot)
    55 int 65 int (bless)

    100 anat
    100 tactics
    100 resist
    100 (weapon skill)
    90.1 magery
    90 healing
    69.9 med
    50 eval int

This build is a well rounded dexer that can summon demons and cast magery with 75% effective spell damage in combat.

    Casting prebuffs

Spells such as arch protection, bless, agility, strength and cunning add +1 per stat/ac per 10 points of magery.
This adds stats and ac with bless/arch protect spell combo's (If you have 90.1 magery the buff is +10).

Deamons, Energy Vortex and Blade spirits can be casted and used as a "meat shield"

Each hybrid character can summon 2 demons at a time and control them as if tamed animals while "thrashing" their way through their opponents.

This build has the ability to heal while doing high melee damage and executing spells in either open field or close quarter combat.

    -Trademark on build :p
