    Hi all,
looking for a great UO home to return to - and to introduce my girlfriend to my UO "madness?" lol

I played on Pacific from original launch through and into AOS. The AOS additions ended up turning me off the game and the subsequent additions are just not my thing.

Then back in 2011 I came back via the UO T2A shard. Great Great people but its looking a little inactive over there so that's led me here as a possible domicile that's also going to at least subdue my better half's thinking i'm crazy.

Hopefully that gives an idea of what I think of fondly when I think of UO content.

What's the vibe here? What differences are there between this shard the UoR ruleset? How active are the hosts with events etc? Am I reading correctly that there's no Trammel?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope to get some feedback.

As a thank you here's something I came across whilst researching on Reddit. Mind blown. I had no idea this was a thing! This Midas guy is a genius and my face hurt listening to these songs. Talk about those nostalgic emotions! ENJOY

Trammel is contained to timed instances, the access to which are from rare drops.

I joined almost 2 years ago and have loved my time here. Great people, helpful and engaged staff, and an all you can eat drama buffet.

The best way to get a feel for the differences between this shard and the one you played during spring break of '98 is to just jump in and see for yourself. This shard aims to be "history perfected", not an exact duplication of what was. I still think fondly about how much nostalgia washed over me when I first logged in here and continues to, every time I run around the overworld.

Your interest comes at a great time, as we head into the holiday season. There's lots of upcoming events to look forward to. Hope to see you around!

Trammel via 'rare drops' eh? That sounds a bit strange. How does that work?

Basically I blame Trammel for spawning Everquest. Yeah I know 3d graphics and all that probably had a part too. For UO to feel like UO to me it takes people. With so few people playing and the dilution over so many free shards i'm glad that there's basically no Trammel. Selfish I know in the days of choice triumphs over all things.

I can't wait to jump in somewhere. Today I have zero personal pc's and I'm stuck waiting on two PCs that I've ordered specifically to play UO. Who does that? LOL - they should be here in a couple of weeks. So until then i'm stuck researching and youtubing.

Thanks for the welcome. Good point about the Holiday Season.

    Some examples:

L7 Treasure Maps have a rare chance to drop in L1-6 treasure maps.
    http://uorforum.com/threads/renaissance-guide-to-treasure-hunting.11957/

Christmas scrolls are rare drops from overworld mobs during the Christmas event:
    http://uorforum.com/threads/christmas-on-renaissance-new-holiday-event.8020/

and more, like the Halloween instance map.

The following aren't in Trammel but are still in instances, as pointed out by @Puck below:

The "Ancient Message in a Bottle" can be looted from pulling up a sunken pirate ship while fishing.
    http://uorforum.com/threads/renaissance-blog-ancient-soss.1709/

The final stage of the Zookeeper's quest:
    http://uorforum.com/threads/the-zookeepers-quest-patch-52-pet-bonding-expansion.4831/

plus instances like the new St. Patrick's day event.

That's not to say people live in these instances. They are timed and people will eventually be booted out of them, for one. And they are not without their own risks: http://uorforum.com/threads/franz-pfniffel-and-the-remnants-of-christmas.21604/

    a few notes:

    1. AMIBS and tamer quests are in felucca, not trammel.
    2. xmas scrolls and lvl 7 maps are in trammel, but if you "open them" from a secure location you'll be alone. They are "locked" from being opened by others while you are in fighting, so they could be on the moon or in Peru or in Care Bear Land. It doesn't matter.

ALL OVERWORLD CONTENT is in a Felucca ruleset. We even have no item decay in houses, so old school house looting is intact. This server is tons of fun and we look forward to seeing you here.

ALSO, there is a schedule of server-wide events PLUS random town invasions. The major ones revolve around server anniversary (you just missed it), Halloween / Night of Horrors, Thanksgiving, Xmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter/St.Patty's.

Making me grin folks :) *reflects* hmm these are smiley grins not evil ones :)

everquest was before Trammel? nooooo damn . okay let my delusion stand. I still blame everquest for everything.

the additional content. sounds okay. basically its just instanced special content from map accessed from certain drops if i got that right. And it sounds like those that aren't instanced are good ones to have friends for!

"Lvl 7" maps thats new to me seem to recall 5 being the max but thats all good

"No Item decay in houses" i'm sure housing is a long way off though starting from scratch. (Although there will be two of us so that'll help). How "full" is the land when it comes to housing placement? Can you still lock items down in houses?

Town Invasions were some my fondest memories although damn I have a TON of great memories. SO glad to see that you have those here.

Totally appreciating all the insights. Thank you. I've been browsing this forum. Seen some weird stuff with colored spell icons but pretty much every image i've looked at has that great look of familiarity.

Oh and a shoutout to Keza. I knew of this shard already but seeing his videos on youtube was great way of spreading and mutating my UO infection ;)

to answer you point by point:

-"normal" tmaps go up to lvl 6. each level 1-6 has a chance to contain a lvl 7 map which is a kind of instanced (except only once version can be open at a time) dungeon that is timed. basically, lvl 7 maps are the "end game" for treasure hunters.

-land is pretty full for large houses. you can still get large towers for less than double deed cost.

-colored spell items are a client mod and NOT contained within the normal client. same with tree hack and all that other stuff people use. i keep my client vanilla, as i prefer the CLASSIC experience.

me too Puck. I am regularly accused of being to old to accept change. And damnit that's alright by me.

I finally realized why I couldn't find a "Good" game to play. I know it personal preference. For me RPGs today just lack depth. Too much hand holding. You start. You click thought the dialogue with the guy with the "!" over his head and arrows tell where to go. All you do is level farm until the end. Its just so darn boring.
I played console ESO for years and did all it had to offer. It 'tried' to have the depth but in its MMO setting it just failed.
I realized that the only place I have really had a richer experience was here in UO.

    I can't wait

OMG you beautiful people made a Mac client! i can't stand my Mac, and this is in the realms of TMI... but between the hated mac and the GFs kids crappy old laptop the introduction to UO begins tonight woohooo.
It'll do till the real computers show up.

Absolutely stunned that someone went to the trouble to make a Mac client - messing with all that boot camp stuff just wasn't my cup of tea.

    My advice is stay away.

You will get hooked and fall back into the trap of endless farming elder gazers! Don't do it! Say no to UO!

    Don't become me.

HA. The blessing turns out to be having a partner that is just a corruptible. Night one is going swimmingly.
    " I wanna be a mage"
"No. That costs too much to make"
    "Archery then?!"
** hmm that'll teach the lesson**
Two hours of setup bs later. and she's outa gold and arrows.
"Honey no you can't add fletching and chopping to that avatar. you'll nerf it."
** another hour later and there she is... character #2 buggering chickens and chopping' logs **

Love how UO doesn't hand hold and insta gratify, Best part is seeing the addiction to the Mondain-est of tasks that in any other game you'd be like screw this for a laugh :)

;) Glad you liked the tunes. Play em to people who don’t know this world and you’re gonna get some pretty weird looks.
There was one that made an ICQ reference. That was such an old memory ding. Made me remember EzMacro. Before all the razor days.
And aye. The Mundain. Lol. Such a stick in the eye to sentiment of the day that kids shouldn’t play games like these or even D&D. It’d lead to devil worship. (Love the game intro video too)

This shard has propably one of the best communitys you could wish for, and the size to enable whatever project youre planning to do.

Its a great shard overall, that is run by non corruptive staff members and a dedicated server admin that put in a lot of time and work.
Development can be partially slow, because its mostly done (or needs to be approved) by the shard owner itself, but patches / improvements are arriving frequently :)

Overall its a nice shard to play on, and the best season to play here has literally started this month!
