how about a special that when u hit your target, they are unable to cast for 4 seconds. Or a double shot doing dbl damage depending on tile distance between target.
What if you ran up to people in dungeons using stealth with those specials? They're supposed to run from stealth archers unable to cast? Seems kinda odd
If I recall correctly. Chris is basically against any changes that could impact PVP, unless it's currently game breaking.
Just is weird that archery doesn't get anything for special or even different types of archery weapons.
And @Theodin no different than 2 stun mages stunning you and dumping, can't do much when that happens, at least if I get stunned and I hit with bow u can't just dump and insta kill. Gives archery some tactical use. Or atleast come out with some new archery weapons.

It needs SOMETHING though, I do agree. Be the first server to make archery viable again. Hell something simple like dp arrows (apply the poison to the bow with the standard 12 charges, rather than be able to poison a giant stack of 60k arrows). High speed internet is really what killed archery. Cant't repair your bow like other weapons...costs arrows to fire, which also takes up backpack space. It needs love.
Not to mention only 3 bows to choose from which hit so slow it's not even worth using. while other weapon skills have almost to many to choose from.
Using a fencer 'tank mage' or 'hybrid' as an example, which is everyone's go-to because it's obviously the best - A fencer mage (we'll use 35 dex as an example) can get 3 hits off before an archer of the same build/stats can cycle another arrow on the fastest bow. The fencer also has fairly easily accessible runics plus the added chance for a para blow, which is essentially a stun. Fencing weapons have the DP option as well. Bows are able to be shot from a distance, however with high speed Internet, this is easily off-screened. Bows also use a consumable resource. Tell me more about balance please.. If nothing else, give bows a chance to concussion blow and level the playing field. This should be a part of "History perfected" IMO.

@Blaise I like that idea of concussion hit, or take the crossbow and make it a faster speed, or chance to do a penetrating hit which does a damage hit as if you didn't have armour on.
Everyone mostly agrees archery needs something. Balancing it in PvP is very hard though. I think the real solution is to only make it good in PvM. That preserves era accuracy where it matters, while also giving life to a weapon skill that is mostly unused. It may make bowcraft useful too. One way to do this would be to first make archery work like any other combat skill. No range or accuracy calculations. Leave the standing still requirement at .25 seconds to not mess with PvP. Then, tune the damage way down - half the dps of other weapon skills. Finally, make subsequent attacks on the same target, as long as your character is standing still, do increasingly more damage up to maybe some number of stacks. Call this "zeroing in" or something. Moving or switching targets removes the damage bonus. The top end damage with full bonus should be higher than all other weapon skills - possibly very high to partially compete with tamers. This makes archery awesome for PvM, but keeps the status quo for PvP. Archers create markets for bowcrafters, so you ressurrect two skills in one go. Some new templates that would be viable are: Archer/Tamer - higher dps than current tamers, but no discord or magery. This is a boss killer specialist. Provo/Archer - With enough dps this becomes viable at the high end. Can't exceed a tamer since this is an easier character to make. Peace/Discord/Archer - This one is interesting. Being at range allows for re-peace when it breaks. Discord drops stats and makes it easier to peace, so seems like a smart choice. I've gotten ahead of myself a bit here, but that's how I'd fix archery.

Just get rid of the accuracy penalty and I'll make this otherwise beautiful shard my home. .5 second moving shot delay instead of .25 would be fine. Increase the range 2-3 tiles would be awesome. Don't do anything to try and make archery viable for dueling. It just needs to be field PvP viable like it's supposed to be
